Sébastien St-François, Certified Translator

Sébastien St-François graduated with honours from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Specialized Translation as well as from Université du Québec à Montréal where he earned a Teaching Certificate. He has been actively translating since 1993.

Mr. St-François is a member of the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ) since 1999. In this capacity, he is authorized to use the title of certified translator and to translate official documents (birth, marriage and death certificates, wills, academic transcripts and diplomas, etc.) and certify his translations with the Order’s seal. He is officially certified and recognized by OTTIAQ in two language combinations: English-French and French-English.

Mr. St-François is also very active within his professional order and has successively held the functions of mentor, continuing education instructor, assistant syndic and syndic (thereby responsible for seeing to members’ compliance with their code of ethics as well as the Professional Code). He is also in charge of the annual convention organizing committee since 2012. In addition, from June 2018 to September 2020, he sat on the board of directors of OTTIAQ as an elected director and second vice-president. Finally, he occasionally represents the organization within the academic community. This active involvement gives him the opportunity to promote the added value of certification to his clientele, the general public and future translators.

Since 2013, Mr. St-François lectures for Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), where he is responsible for the course in legal translation (TRA1064). This course is part of a fully online program that leads to the awarding of a bachelor of translation that is recognized by OTTIAQ for certification purposes (i.e., for obtaining the right to use the title of certified translator).

Finally, since the entry into force of Bill 25, An Act to modernize legislative provisions as regards the protection of personal information, Mr. St-François is the person in charge of the protection of personal information for the company.
